quick intro to boxee from boxee on Vimeo.
The Future of TV is starting to peek out from behind the curtain. This past weekend, the NYTimes covered Boxee, which is dubbed as a new simple software that allows users to access multiple Internet video and music sites, and to bring them to a large monitor or television. Boxee lets consumers enjoy their movies, TV shows, music and photos, as well as stream content from websites like Hulu, Netflix, CBS, Comedy Central, Last.fm, and flickr.
Consumer electronics and media companies have explored this model for years, but with extreme caution due to technical limitations and to protect existing business models. Open source tech afficianados are applauding the company for providing a long overdue and highly demanded service and for taking on the the large cable operators. Lots of Boxee’s fans are hoping this new software will help box out their costly $100+ cable service fees.
Boxee is free and available for download from the boxee.tv site and currently works on Mac and Linux computers, and on Apple’s set-top box, Apple TV.

I peeped this video on JumpOff.tv. Jeezy and Nas waxing poetic on our next President. I’m definitely looking forward to inauguration day on Tuesday. Thanks Harry for posting the video.

Wanna bamboozle the same daft friends who thought Kobe Bryant really jumped over a speeding Aston Martin? Then sit them down and share this video of Gossip Girl actress Tyler Momsen escaping the paparazzi — with help from her loud blue Nike sneaks. And possibly some training tips from Spiderman.

The FTW-Crew from Berlin were recently spotted altering posters of models in the Berlin metro. They superimposed the Photoshop steps it takes to beautify the models on top of the posters. Clever way to remind the public about our overly photoshop’d media world. The project reminded me of two things: some of the Poster hacking work done by Posterboy in NYC and the Ogilvy spot created by Tim Piper for the Dove campaign called Evolution. Here’s a YouTube video of the spot to refresh the dome.
SMS to TiVo
Jan 16

The days of the mobile device as just a phone are completely dead, kaput. Not only are more devices hitting the market with converged features, but savvy designers and developers are creating a bevy of sweet applications and services as evidenced in this little doozy by Kwiry. Kwiry is an SMS-based service designed to simplify mobile tasks. Kwiry just announced a feature that allows users to control their TiVo device remotely via SMS. If you’re a TiVo or DVR user that has at some point in their lives forgotten to set the box to record that all important show or basketball game, then this simple service is for you.
Check out kwiry, the company that says, ‘Text it before you forget it’.
New Mobile Browser
Jan 16

Mobile browsing is hot these days especially with the iPhone, G1, and Palm Pre leading the charge with their super capable Webkit browsers. Also, new mobile browser companies like Fennec, Opera and Skyfire are starting to flood the marketplace looking for early adopters to take their browsers for a test run. Well, the latest entry into the quickly growing mobile browser world is Bolt. Bolt supports streaming video, JavaScript, AJAX, and RSS and works on most phones, not just smartphones. It’s a great solution for lower-end device owners looking for a more robust mobile browsing experience.
