Wassup 2008

Its been eight long years since the boys said wassup to each other. Even with the effects of a down economy and imminent change in the White House, the boys are still able to come together and stay true to what really matters.

Poster Boy brings you Subway Poster Hacking

[from Trend Central]
It’s not often that you see innovation that takes street art beyond Krylon, scratchitti, ink markers, and wheat paste. However, over the past year, NYC subway riders have been taking note of a growing number of underground platform ads that have been cut and paste to create new signs, often with humorous or political messages; for example, a McDonald’s ad was changed to read “McDorse The World” and an Indiana Jones poster became “Indians R Gone.” The movement is being inspired by an incognito artist, known simply as Poster Boy, who posts his work on Flickr and is encouraging others to take up the medium and claim the Poster Boy moniker as well. While aerosol taggers in the ’80s had to get their word out via subway cars that traversed the burroughs, because of digital cameras and the popularity of photo sharing we could see this new form of self expression becoming influential on a global scale in no time.

Hello, this is Android Mobile

Nick Parish from Creativity Magazine just came out with this article about Google’s purported iPhone killer. We’re all excited about Google’s unveiling this week of its partnership with T-Mobile and its fledgling operating system Android with the G1, a new handset from manufacturer HTC. I’m quoted several times in the article, so give it a read.

Obama Dominates McCain in Xbox and Wins Marketer of the Year

As reported in GigaOm last week, Obama is now campaigning in Xbox 360. There have been confirmed sightings of an “Obama for President” billboard in the Xbox 360 racing game Burnout Paradise. It was reported that it was an official advertisement placed by Obama’s campaign team. Holly Rockwood, director of corporate communications at Electronic Arts said, “I can confirm that the Obama campaign has paid for in-game advertising in Burnout”.

On the heels of Obama’s video game ad placement, Ad Age announced Obama as their top pick for Marketer of the Year beating out the likes of Apple, Zappo’s, and Nike.

Check out Fennec, the Mobile Firefox Browser

Mozilla’s Firefox-like browser for mobile phones is code-named Fennec and is currently in distribution as an alpha preview for Windows, Mac, and Linux systems including the Nokia N810 Internet Tablets. It’s still a bit buggy and there are supposedly several features still waiting to be developed for the beta release. However, if you want to catch a sneak peek of the alpha version, check out the above Vimeo video for a walk through of the Fennec experience or click through to Lifehacker to get the full scoop and detailed screenshots.

DJ Z-Trip / Obama Mix

[a letter from DJ Z-Trip's website]
Recently, Shepard Fairey and I threw some fundraisers for the Obama campaign. We called them “The Party for Change”. (If you don’t know who Shepard is—among many other things—he is the one responsible for the image on the right).

I’ve been wanting to put the mix I’ve been doing at these shows online, in hopes of spreading the word to people who need to hear it most. I encourage you to download it and pass it along to anyone you think should hear it. Feel free to burn copies, share it with friends, family, co-workers, strangers, and especially anyone you know is on the fence about this election. I’m also putting out a radio friendly version, in case anyone wants to broadcast it.

Please share the message. Educate those who may not know what is really going on. There is still time. If you, or anyone you know, isn’t registered to vote, I encourage you to make it a priority and fix that before it’s too late. This election is WAY too important for anyone to not get involved. If you need more information on how and where to register, vote, or participate, please check the links below. I honestly feel if we make our voices heard, this time WILL be different.

Peace,
Z-TRIP

Go get the music.

Nokia Supernova

Described as a rapid-fire rundown of one’s mobile-driven day, the latest Nokia integrated campaign created by Weiden + Kennedy London is a voyeuristic look at three fictional characters—Anna, Luca and Jade—a group of hipsters that capture their entire social lives on their Nokia 7610 handsets. The W + K created microsite brings to life these three fictional characters by exposing their stories to the audience by showcasing all of the text and video messages in each of their devices.

Nike+ Like iPhone Apps

Several free iPhone Nike+ like Apps are available from the iTunes App Store. The Apps leverage the 3G iPhone’s built-in GPS capabilities to provide users with much of the same functionality that users can already get from Nike+. Two of the iPhone apps that are making noise are Fitnio and RunKeeper. Both of them are free from the iTunes App Store, and both apps will automatically upload your running data to a web site like Nike+. Check out the iTunes App Store to browse a ton of similar apps.
