$50,000 Diamond Encrusted AF1

big-boi-diamondstuddedshoe.jpg

I found this one on str8hiphop.com. These 50K diamond encrusted AF1s were presented to Outkast’s Antwan “Big Boi” Patton by Laced Up owner Ernel Dawkins and P&C Couture boutique owner Rita Patel. The sneaker was dipped covered in 11 carats of chocolate champagne diamonds from India. Ernel Dawkins was quoted as saying “When it came time to consider which celebrity to honor with this shoe, we thought it would be perfect to go with Atlanta’s top sneaker head, Antwan “Big Boi” Patton. To us he represents style and affluent flavor”.

Tech Giants Squash Negroponte’s Plans For Cheap PC

Nicholas Negroponte’s plan to get $100 laptop computers into the hands of the world’s poorest children has been derailed. For-profit companies threatened by the projected $100 price tag have forced the hand of brands such as Intel to provide other discounted laptops such as Intel’s Classmate laptop which currently goes for between $230 and $300. Microsoft also announced that it would offer developing countries a $3 software package that includes Windows. This was unexpected competition for Negroponte who was quoted as saying, “I’m not good at selling laptops, I’m good at selling ideas.”

Google launches Maps with Location Info

Google’s new beta version of its Google Maps for Mobile now includes location-based information that utilizes cell triangulation. Although, not as accurate as using GPS for location positioning, Google predicts that the new application can locate you within 500 or 5,000 meters. The application works with BlackBerry devices, some newer Motorola and Sony Ericsson devices and many Windows Mobile and Series 60 third edition devices. Currently, the iPhone, Motorola Q, Samsung BlackJack and Palm Treo 700w do not support the application.

Chipuya Town

chipuya_town.jpg

[via trendcentral]
Recently launched in Japan, a new virtual world called Chipuya Town allows users to take their gaming on-the-go through the use of any Flash-enabled cell phone. Although it’s somewhat similar to popular virtual fictional world Second Life, it differs in that users create avatars which they use to walk around and interact with a virtual replicate of the real world (in this case Tokyo’s Shibuya shopping district).

Although membership to Chipuya Town is free, companies and marketers will have a major presence. Players will earn currency— called Grooves— by signing up friends, playing games and interacting with marketing materials such as promotional events, flyers and billboards. In turn, avatars will be able to purchase everything from apparel to home furnishings in virtual boutiques. We imagine that in the future this application will likely be hyperlinked to the real world, allowing participants to receive virtual coupons for the real world stores and giving them the ability to purchase real world products through their phones.

Moveable Type, an installation by Ben Rubin and Mark Hansen

It’s not the corporate blogging software that you’re probably thinking of, but it’s actually the new permanent art installation in the lobby of the new Renzo Piano-designed New York Times headquarters building on Eighth Avenue and 41st Street. The Moveable Type installation created by Artist Ben Rubin and UCLA professor/statistician Mark Hansen, arranges data from the paper, as well as activity on its Web site, on 560 vacuum fluorescent screens. The information is parsed and displayed on the vacuum fluorescent screens by algorithms created by the artists.

Marvel Comics puts entire archive on Internet

marvel_comics.jpg

The comic book industry took a big step into cyberspace last week with Marvel Comics unveiling the industry’s first online archive of more than 2,500 back issues of it’s collection. Readers can now check out the first appearances of Spider-Man, the X-Men, and the Incredible Hulk. Marvel will offer the archive in a high-resolution format for $59.88 for a year or at a monthly rate of $9.99. The comic book reader allows users to jump frame to frame with a “Smart Panel” viewing feature that also allows a user to zoom in and out of the action. As Marvel’s fan base increasingly moved to the web to read comics in a digital format, Marvel did not want to be caught flat footed. To help kick off the service, Marvel is offering up a free sampler of 250 titles.

Adidas Materials of the World Series

adidas_motw_peru_grn_02.jpg

Here’s a snap of the Adidas Arosa Hi which is part of their Materials of the World collection. This particular design is inspired by authentic fabrics from Peru and the high boot shape is inspired by ponchos worn in the rural areas of Peru. It blends pre-hispanic influences with colonial era heritage. The traditional Cushma of the 17th century was stitched up on both sides and embellished with geometric figures. The design consists of a Bamboo and green designed wool upper, the front part is made of olive green suede with a high rubber sole and fur on the inside. To wear, just slip it on.

air_trainer2.jpg

Nike introduces the new Nike Air Trainer Tech Pack based off of the original Nike cross trainer design introduced back in 1987. The original Nike Air Trainer releases were part of Nike’s early foray into the multi-functional shoe realm which later took on a life of it’s own in the 1990s. Throughout that time, the shoe was worn by both tennis players and basketball idols alike. The new Tech Pack release combines new fabrics and technologies created by Jarrett Reynolds and Michael Leon. All of the products in this pack give an approving nod to futuristic stylings while staying grounded in the core Nike principal of functional performance.
