Competition-based online talent community

ourstage.jpg

Growing online talent community, OurStage, has gotten past it’s beta phase and has officially launched to the public. Think of the site as an online American Idol for musicians and filmmakers looking to gain some industry exposure. The aspiring songwriters and filmmakers are put into a series of four one-on-one competitions. The community votes for the winners to determine who proceeds to the final competition at the end of the month. Voting is open to the public. Winners receive prizes ranging from $100 to $5000.

The Pet Shop Boys are campaigning against the erosion of civil liberties and the proposed introduction of ID cards in the UK in their new interactive promo video for their new single ‘integral’. Embedded in this dystopian video are single frames of Quick Response (or QR) Codes that will allow fans to access embedded URLs that will then link them to featured websites and online news articles that reflect the song’s subject matter in highlighting campaigns for freedom and civil liberty. Users simply need to pause the video on the QR Code frame and photograph it with their mobile camera.

InWindow Outdoor

inwindow.jpg

InWindow Outdoor recently launched a large-format video projection for retail storefronts. The installation detects motion on the street and interacts with passersby. According to Steve Birnhak, CEO of Inwindow Outdoor, the idea came from customer demand and the need to incorporate interactivity into outdoor advertising. “Increasingly our customers have been asking for digital interactivity and along with our Bluetooth and audio capabilities, the addition of this product allows us to satisfy all their needs. It’s a great solution because the billboard-sized Storescape at eye level grabs people and the interactive video component draws them in even farther,” he said.

(video embedded from the Trollbäck + Company website)

The new InterActiveCorp’s (IAC) headquarters, located in the Frank Gehry designed building on New York’s West Side features the world’s largest hi-res video wall, showing content designed by Trollbäck + Company, New York.

The content displayed on the hi-res video wall incorporates 2D, 3D, and live action. The video wall holds up to 25 million pixels and features a massive array of screens totaling 125 feet in length and 11 feet in height. Thousands of passerbys will be able to soak in live feeds from some of IAC’s internet businesses such as Ticketmaster, Match.com and Ask.com.

Jakob Trollbäck, creative director at Trollbäck + Company was quoted in Contagious magazine as describing the wall to be “an installation piece that people will see every day, so we wanted it to be inspiring and stimulating, an art installation rather than a loud billboard. It is an exciting and artistic visual experience that enhances understanding of how the company interfaces with our lives.”

Heya Campaign from Toyota

heya.jpg

“HEYA” means “room” in Japanese. And Toyota has built an online room and thrown open the doors to you. Think of it as a rec room and art studio, inventor’s garage and screening room. HEYA is a place to share and collaborate on ideas – an online conversation that leads to new thinking and projects—with each other, and with Toyota. Toyota is hoping that by picking your brain they’ll better understand the zeitgeist that much better. Toyota wants to collaborate with you online in their forums and offline with events in your community to create something. Something that will affect culture positively. And maybe leave your fingerprints all over their car designs. Influence the Toyota brand. Connect with like-minded creatives like you. Participate in unique and custom HEYA events in your area. Receive financial support as well as critique, feedback, and help in pulling off your own personal projects.
